Volvo is all set to release an update for its Volvo On Call smart app. The app allows Volvo drivers to control a number of functions and features on the go and now wearable tech such as the new Apple Watch or Android Wear will be supported.
“Volvo On Call is an app that allows you to literally take control over everyday elements in your Volvo. You can set heater timings for those cold and frosty mornings or cool down your car in hot weather, check your fuel levels and mileage, or look up the time to next service. It even helps you locate your car in a crowded parking garage,” explains David Holecek, Director Connected Products and Services at Volvo Cars.
Volvo On Call was initially launched in 2001 as a remote safety feature for Volvo car owners, the first of its kind. It provided safety, security and tracking services in case of an accident, breakdown or theft by making use of a car-installed SIM card.
The app still handles these functions but has been improved with this new update to handle a whole bunch of other functions such as remote locking and fuel-level indicators. It will even notify emergency services in case of an accident with an accurate location of the car. The app currently has over 230,000 active users and is available in 21 markets around the world.
“In only a few years we have moved from a safety and security related in-car features to a solution that allows the driver to stay connected with their car and provides many new benefits to support their everyday requirements,” says Sofia Wessman, Manager of Volvo On Call.
